President Ruto calls on IMF and World Bank to extend debt relief

President William Ruto has called on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to extend debt relief to developing countries hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City ,President Ruto said countries like Kenya are on the brink of losing development gains owing to pandemic-related disruptions.He urged lending organisations to give special consideration to nations also affected by conflict and climate change.

  1. Debt relief doesn’t come for free. It’s a give and take situation. They give a little and they take a lot. World bank and IMF will give you many conditions and rules.
